Thorpelee
Before beginning the track, a great night is spent in the comfort of Thorpelee Homestead, a spacious four bedroom villa built in 1910. Take in the history as this location was the centre of activities on the South Island’s first sheep station, Flaxbourne. Enjoy self catering in the private surroundings or head to the local pub for your first evening meal.
The Shirt
At the end of your first day walking you reach the haven of The Shirt cottage – a quaint cottage set on a sunny hillside. Relax on the wide deck after the first day’s walk. The Shirt is fitted with an electric stove, refrigerator, bath and shower. You probably won’t be able to resist dressing up for dinner in this location.
Lighthouse Keeper’s baches
Your third night is spent at Cape Campbell where three cosy baches lie just a stone’s throw from the beach under the protective beams of the lighthouse. There are two separate bathroom facilities, as well as two kitchens complete with refrigerators and electric stoves. BBQs are available too.

Freeth Estate
The final night is spent at the stately Freeth Estate Homestead. Built in 1908, this was the accommodation house in Ward before being moved to its present site in 1946. A spacious four bedroom homestead with a log burner, bath, shower, refrigerator and electric stove ensures a comfortable stay. Wide verandahs and a beautiful cottage garden in which to relax await you.
